AI agents face challenges in widespread adoption

MetaSource: Axios30/09/2026, 20:41
AI companies are betting on the mass adoption of agents to simplify daily tasks like email management and travel bookings. However, most Americans do not use AI chatbots, let alone agents, creating a significant barrier to adoption. Meta's Muse, which rose to the top of Apple's App Store due to its integration with Facebook and Instagram, has shown consumer interest, but its success has not translated into widespread use. The St. Louis Fed reports that AI adoption is 'widespread but shallow,' with at least 20% of workers using AI in over 80% of occupations. Despite this, only 6% of Americans believe using AI tools like ChatGPT is very important for a good life, according to Gallup. The challenge lies in convincing people to grant agents access to their digital lives, a hurdle that currently limits the impact of agentic AI to those already familiar with digital overload.
