AI agents face new challenges as websites block their access
Personal AI agents, such as Meta’s Muse, are encountering resistance from websites that block their access, hindering their ability to perform tasks like booking flights or making purchases. Amazon recently blocked Muse, and similar issues have been reported on platforms like Walmart and eBay.
Walmart, however, has partnered with Muse and claims the issue stems from its human verification process, which agents cannot navigate. Delta and United have also expressed concerns about unauthorized automated activity, while Yelp and Adidas have not provided clear responses.
Industry leaders are working on an open standard to facilitate agent-to-business communication, aiming to distinguish between legitimate and malicious bots. Meta emphasizes collaboration with businesses to ensure agents can access partner sites, highlighting the need for clear norms and predictable controls.
