Ai-generated comedians steal jokes from real stand-ups

Fanvue + MetaSource: Wired - AI16/10/2026, 10:50
Stand-up comedians are facing a new form of plagiarism as AI-generated influencers replicate their content. Julia Jasunas discovered her joke was copied by an AI account named Aylen Skye, which redirected to NSFW content on Fanvue. Jasunas reported the video to Meta, but the platform did not consider it a violation. Similar incidents have occurred with other comedians, including George Brett Olson, whose joke was replicated by an AI account named Tiffany Sloane. Meta’s policies do not prohibit AI content, and the accounts are often inconsistently labeled. Olson noted that Meta’s response was dismissive, stating that AI content is not practical to ban. Legal experts suggest that jokes have limited copyright protection, making litigation unlikely. Some in the tech industry, like Justine Moore, praise these AI accounts as marketing hacks. Comedians argue that the AI-generated content undermines their work and demoralizes the industry.
