AI giants plan record-breaking charitable donations worth nearly $300 billion
Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceX are set to launch what could be the largest charitable donations in modern history, with an estimated value of nearly $300 billion. Anthropic plans to donate 5% of its company shares to a new philanthropy fund, which could reach $1 trillion if the company's valuation hits $2 trillion.
The founders also pledged to give away 80% of their personal wealth. OpenAI's charitable foundation is said to hold about 25% of the company's shares, valued at over $1.8 trillion, with $8.55 billion already allocated to charitable projects.
Elon Musk announced plans to gift SpaceX shares to every American child next year, potentially exceeding $110 billion in value. The donations, largely in the form of unlisted equity or future commitments, depend heavily on the IPO valuations of Anthropic and OpenAI, as well as SpaceX's stock price.
The move is seen as an effort to mitigate the potential negative impacts of AI on employment and income distribution.
