A new survey commissioned by a sociologist specializing in AI reveals mixed outcomes for U.S. workers in the wake of AI adoption. Conducted by YouGov between July 30 and August 4, 2026, the survey polled 1,250 employed U.S. adults about their experiences with AI tools like ChatGPT. The study, which is part of an ongoing research project, found that four years after ChatGPT’s launch in November 2022, AI has not led to significant job losses or gains. Only about 3% of respondents reported losing a job due to AI since 2023, while roughly 6% indicated they landed a new job created by AI. Approximately 9% said they earned a promotion related to AI. The findings surprised AI pessimists like the sociologist, who noted the low rate of job losses and changes linked to AI. The survey aimed to reflect the U.S. employed population across various demographics.
