AI infrastructure funding surges as Anthropic secures high-interest debt
On October 19, 2026, IT Home reported that Anthropic, an American AI firm, secured $60 billion in debt financing, with interest rates exceeding 10%, backed by Blackstone. The $60 billion loan is split into $42 billion in senior debt, guaranteed by Broadcom, and $18 billion in subordinated debt.
Blackstone is investing $9 billion in the subordinated debt, which offers a 10% yield, with higher returns after accounting for discounts and fees. The remaining $9 billion is expected to be distributed in the coming months with potentially lower yields.
This marks a significant increase from a similar transaction four months ago, where Anthropic raised $44 billion at an 8.5% yield, highlighting the rising risk premium for AI infrastructure funding.
Anthropic is also preparing for one of the largest IPOs in history, structured as a Public Benefit Corporation, with 20% of shares allocated for public purposes.
