AI infrastructure sparks global competition: tech giants commit over $3 trillion
Tech giants including Alphabet, Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Oracle have pledged to invest over $3 trillion in AI infrastructure over the next several years, according to a report by Bloomberg. The investments, which include data centers, energy, and equipment, are expected to span both short-term and long-term contracts, with some extending up to 30 years. Alphabet, the parent company of Google, has committed over $1 trillion, nearly eight times its level from a year ago. Meta has pledged over $800 billion, with nearly half allocated to future data center leases. Meta’s CFO, Susan Li, stated the company will continue to invest heavily in core operations and emerging AI projects. Oracle, the first major tech firm to experience negative free cash flow due to AI investments, expects to return to positive cash flow by 2028.
The investments, however, are not solely focused on data centers, and the disclosure methods vary, making direct comparisons difficult. Oracle plans to reduce upfront costs through supplier financing and customer prepayments. The total lease commitments across all five companies amount to $1.3 trillion, while procurement commitments total $1.9 trillion. Microsoft’s data is from its June 2026 report, while others use their latest financial filings.
