AI integration in U.S. nuclear reactors accelerates
As of October 13, 2026, AI is being increasingly adopted in U.S. nuclear reactors, with nearly all 94 reactors now integrating AI solutions. Atomic Canyon launched NIVA, a virtual assistant for the nuclear industry, which is now used across all U.S. reactors.
Nuclearn, an AI startup, has partnered with over 65 U.S. entities, including NuScale Power Corp. Microsoft and NVIDIA are collaborating on a project to apply AI across the entire nuclear power lifecycle.
Jerrold Vincent, Nuclearn’s CFO, highlighted that AI adoption is driven by the need for more power for data centers and its ability to address complex regulatory and operational challenges. Nuclearn’s AI helps streamline compliance documentation, acting as a digital equivalent to ChatGPT for the nuclear sector.
Atomic Canyon downloaded 53 million pages of regulatory data in 2025 to train its AI model. Trey Lauderdale, CEO of Atomic Canyon, emphasized that AI will not replace human decision-making in nuclear operations due to regulatory and safety concerns.
