AI traffic surpasses 60% of internet traffic, surging over 1,700% in a year
Cloudflare's Asia-Pacific executive vice president and managing director, Goran Risticsevich, revealed that AI agents now account for approximately 60% of global internet traffic, marking a surge of over 1,700% in the past year.
Speaking at a media event in Seoul, South Korea, Risticsevich emphasized the rapid growth of AI-driven traffic and the need for synchronized AI security measures to address the evolving digital landscape.
He highlighted how AI agents can simultaneously access thousands of websites and servers to perform tasks that would typically require a human to visit multiple sites.
This expansion of AI capabilities has also increased the attack surface, prompting Cloudflare to warn about the risks posed by 'shadow AI'—the use of unauthorized AI tools by employees that could expose sensitive internal data.
Additionally, the company raised concerns about 'shadow MCP' risks, where unauthorized connections via model context protocols could bypass corporate security controls. Risticsevich stressed the importance of building an intelligent internet infrastructure while ensuring robust security measures keep pace with technological advancements.
