Amazon considers divesting and leasing back $8 billion NVIDIA grace blackwell AI chips
According to a report by The Financial Times, Amazon is exploring the divestiture of approximately $8 billion worth of NVIDIA Grace Blackwell AI chips into a special purpose vehicle (SPV), with plans to lease them back. The chips are distributed across over a dozen data centers in five U.S. states.
The SPV is expected to secure an investment-grade credit rating and raise funds through equity sales and bond issuance. This move aims to alleviate debt pressure from Amazon’s substantial AI infrastructure investment, enabling a lighter asset structure.
The report also mentions that Broadcom is raising $60 billion to fund chip purchases for companies like Anthropic.
