An examination of artificial intelligence's influence on employment reveals that its effects are not uniform across genders, given differing occupational concentrations and task distributions. While the overall impact is complex, the analysis presented found eight potential negatives outweighing five positives.
Several positive shifts include the automation of tedious, non-promotable office tasks, which disproportionately affect women, and the potential for AI to reduce the premium on irreplaceable expertise in high-paying fields like law and medicine. Furthermore, AI lowers barriers to entrepreneurship; for instance, the share of new startups with a single founder rose from about 24% in 2019 to 36% in the first half of 2025, aided by AI-assisted coding.
Conversely, the report notes that while healthcare and social assistance—sectors heavily employing women—accounted for nearly all US net job creation in 2025 (405,000 in health care and 308,000 in social assistance), this growth is vulnerable to political decisions regarding public funding. Additionally, while relational skills are gaining value as AI handles cognitive tasks, the market may fail to adequately compensate for these skills if they are perceived as inherently feminine.
