Anthropic has announced a significant update to its Claude AI model, integrating its memory system across both the chat interface and the Claude Cowork platform. This change eliminates the need for users to repeatedly restate information, as Claude will now retain knowledge from one task and apply it to another.
The update allows users to seamlessly transition between research and action phases without losing context. For example, if a user discusses a conference with Claude, the AI will remember details such as headcount, location, and speakers, making it easier to draft related documents or agendas later.
Additionally, Claude will now continuously add topics to its memory during conversations rather than summarizing at the end, improving the flow between chat and Cowork. By default, the system does not store personal or sensitive information such as health data, race, or political views, though users can opt to include these if desired.
The memory feature is available on all Free, Pro, and Max plans across web, desktop, and mobile, with iOS and Android users needing to update their apps. Anthropic also emphasized that certain data, such as government IDs and Social Security numbers, will never be stored.
The update aims to make Claude feel like a single, unified assistant rather than two separate products under the same brand.
