Anthropic, the AI company known for its Claude model, has launched a specialized tool for small businesses, aiming to boost adoption among mom-and-pop shops. The Claude for Small Business plugin has seen 900,000 installations since its May release, with plans for new workshops and training programs to further its reach. Lina Ochman, head of US small and medium businesses at Anthropic, described the tool as an 'agentic starter pack' designed to handle tasks like financial reconciliation through QuickBooks. Anthropic has also partnered with companies like Shopify, Stripe, and Zoom to expand its offerings. The company is running workshops in cities like San Francisco and New York to train 'Approved Claude SMB Trainers,' who must host five workshops by year-end. Ochman noted that many small business owners are hesitant to fully automate with AI, citing concerns about accuracy and security. Meanwhile, some business owners have faced backlash from customers for using AI-generated content, such as a tiki bar owner who received negative reviews for an AI-designed sign. Ochman emphasized that while Claude can assist with 95% of tasks, human oversight remains crucial.
