Anthropic expands internal billing infrastructure amid revenue growth
Anthropic is evaluating the development of its own billing and payment infrastructure to reduce reliance on third-party services like Stripe. According to a report by The Information, the company is conducting a 'build-vs-buy' assessment to determine which financial platforms to retain and which capabilities to build internally. The move comes as Anthropic's revenue for the second quarter of 2026 reached $11.5 billion, a 14-fold increase compared to the same period last year.
The company is actively hiring for roles in its billing platform team, including Staff Software Engineer and Technical Program Manager. These positions focus on pricing, payment infrastructure, contract management, and revenue reconciliation. Anthropic's current billing options include subscription plans and token-based API pricing. If the internal system is implemented, it could allow for more direct control over billing processes, discounts, and reporting.
The initiative reflects Anthropic's broader strategy to enhance its financial operations as it scales. By building its own infrastructure, the company aims to improve its ability to manage complex billing scenarios and support its growing revenue streams.
