Anthropic introduces feature to sync terminal sessions with desktop
Anthropic has announced the integration of terminal sessions with its desktop version of Claude Code, allowing users to resume previous CLI conversations directly from the desktop interface. By typing '/resume', users can access a list of past terminal sessions and seamlessly continue work from the desktop.
Lydia Hallie, an engineer on the Claude Code team, noted that the feature supports 1,240 sessions and 162.4 million tokens. The update addresses a long-standing issue where desktop and terminal sessions were previously isolated, with no way to transfer context between them.
The feature was requested on GitHub in April and was finally implemented after discussions within the team. Anthony Morris, another engineer, explained that the team initially considered a simpler solution but opted for '/resume' due to interface limitations.
The update is part of a broader effort to enhance the desktop experience, including an auto-resume feature for sessions that run out of quota. Users have praised the change as a small but impactful improvement to workflow efficiency.
