Anthropic launches sonnet 5.5, a faster and more cost-effective AI assistant

Anthropic has launched Sonnet 5.5, a mid-tier AI model that it claims is significantly faster and more cost-effective than its predecessor, Sonnet 5. The model is designed for everyday tasks such as coding and document creation. Sonnet 5.5 is 30 percent faster than Sonnet 5 and has a slower token burn rate. It also matches Opus 5 in cyber capabilities, making it the first Sonnet model to undergo the same cyber safeguards as Fable and Opus. Anthropic also plans to release a new version of Haiku in the coming weeks. The release comes amid a surge in new AI model launches, including OpenAI's recent updates to Sol and Luna, and Meta's new model for its smart glasses.
