Anthropic's claude breaks physics record with nine-loop calculation
Anthropic's Claude has achieved a breakthrough in theoretical physics by solving the nine-loop calculation of the N=4 super Yang-Mills theory, surpassing the previous eight-loop record. The result was verified by Lance Dixon, a leading researcher in the field.
The calculation was performed using the Claude Science system, which follows strict scientific protocols. The team employed two distinct methods: the bootstrap approach and the shape factor method, both of which yielded consistent results.
The computation, which required handling massive datasets, was completed at a significantly lower cost compared to traditional methods. Meanwhile, a Chinese research team led by He Song also made progress on the same problem, using AI tools like GPT-6.
Dixon noted that the field is now seeing rapid advancements driven by AI, with both pure AI and human-AI collaboration pushing the boundaries of theoretical physics.
