Apple confirms first-gen homepod mini won't support new siri AI

On October 14, 2026, CNET reported that Apple has confirmed the first-generation HomePod mini will not support the new Siri AI due to hardware limitations. The company stated that the original model's chip and memory configuration are insufficient to run the large language model required for Siri AI. The update will be available on the HomePod mini 2 and Apple TV 4K (second-generation and later models). The first-gen HomePod mini remains a popular choice for users due to its compact design and affordability. While it can still function as a Bluetooth speaker and basic smart home hub, users seeking advanced Siri features will need to upgrade to the newer model. Apple's decision highlights the growing demand for AI-powered voice assistants in smart home devices.
