Apple's HomeView delayed due to siri development hurdles
According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple's HomeView, a smart home hub, was developed well before its recent release. The device was delayed for over two years due to the lack of a functional, updated Siri assistant. Originally planned for 2024, the product was pushed back multiple times, with the final release occurring in October 2026. The hardware, featuring an A18 chip and 8GB RAM, shows signs of being outdated, having been stored in warehouses for months. Gurman noted that some former Apple employees still claim involvement in the project, indicating long-term development.
HomeView, priced at $299, is positioned as a cost-effective alternative to iPads for smart home use. Apple is also working on a more advanced version with a mechanical arm that can rotate the screen toward the user. The product's release highlights the company's ongoing efforts to integrate AI into its ecosystem, despite challenges in developing a robust Siri system.
