AWS has launched Pizza Bot, an open-source application designed to manage background AI tasks. The tool organizes completed results and pending decisions into an email-style inbox, allowing users to work on tasks while away. Earlier versions were used by over 2,000 Amazon employees for tasks like meeting preparation and CRM logging. The public version is now available as an open-source project. Pizza Bot supports multiple AI providers including Amazon Bedrock, Anthropic, and OpenAI. It offers desktop and browser clients with a React interface, and is licensed under Apache 2.0. The application uses DeepAgents and LangGraph for stateful execution, with checkpoints to retain thread state. It also supports skill workers and external tools through MCP servers. Users can organize tasks into folders and review delegated work. The server handles scheduling, and missed intervals are caught up on rather than replayed. An always-on backend is required for continuous task execution after the desktop app exits. The tool also includes a sandboxed JavaScript interpreter and supports custom skill workflows.
