Boosting ukrainian journalism with AI tools
OpenAI, WAN-IFRA, and AIRPPU have launched a new initiative to support Ukrainian news publishers through artificial intelligence. The program, announced in a joint press release on September 7, 2026, includes two components: the Newsroom AI Masterclass Series and the News. The Masterclass Series began on August 5, 2026, and will provide international experts to share knowledge on AI adoption. The Catalyst will support ten Ukrainian news organizations with hands-on AI implementation. All participants will receive credits to OpenAI’s API. The initiative aims to enhance journalism resilience amid ongoing conflict. AIRPPU, representing Ukraine’s independent regional publishers, collaborates with WAN-IFRA to strengthen media sustainability and press freedom. OpenAI continues its global partnership with news organizations to support their missions. The program builds on WAN-IFRA’s prior work in AI adoption and OpenAI’s ongoing efforts. Details on participation and dates are available online.
