Broadcom secures $50 billion for OpenAI AI chip initiative
Broadcom is securing over $50 billion in private debt financing to support OpenAI's custom AI chip project, according to insiders.
The funding, expected to be completed by the end of 2026, aims to ensure the smooth implementation of OpenAI's chip production capacity, with deployment planned for 10 gigawatts of custom AI chip systems between the second half of 2026 and the end of 2029.
The deal involves discussions with Apollo Global Management and Blackstone Group, with the latter leading the underwriting of the $18 billion junior debt portion. In addition to the OpenAI collaboration, Broadcom is arranging up to $6 billion in new AI chip financing for Anthropic, with relevant banks starting syndicated distribution.
Meanwhile, Oracle and SpaceX are also actively raising funds for AI chip purchases and data center construction, highlighting the strong demand for AI computing power.
