A growing number of CEOs are delegating AI initiatives without fully grasping the technology’s potential, according to a recent analysis. Despite widespread adoption, with 88% of companies using AI, only 12% have seen both revenue growth and cost reduction, per a PwC study.
Meanwhile, global spending on AI is projected to reach $409 billion this year, highlighting the disconnect between investment and tangible value. Todd James, founder of Aurora Insights LLC, notes that many CEOs lack the depth of understanding needed to guide AI strategies effectively.
This gap often leads to misaligned initiatives, such as AI-led pilots without clear ownership or roadmaps with undefined outcomes. James emphasizes that CEOs must invest in learning to recognize how AI can impact the P&nL, such as reducing operating costs through improved routing in logistics.
The challenge lies in balancing delegation with strategic oversight to ensure AI initiatives align with business goals.
