On August 24, the 21st Changchun Film Festival hosted the 'New Forces of Chinese Literature' event, bringing together renowned literary figures, emerging filmmakers, and experts to explore the synergy between literature and film. During the event, several key agreements were signed, including a strategic cooperation deal for the digital transformation of literary IP and the AIGC transformation of Changying IP. The 'AI Shang Jilin' original literary works collection initiative was also launched, alongside the release of the 'Most Transformable Literary IP List for Jilin Mid-career Writers' for 2026. Fifteen works, including the novel 'Apple Pear' and the online literature 'There's a Demon Across the River,' were highlighted on the list. Qi Huadong, Vice Chairman of the China Writers Association, noted that the Chinese literary landscape has expanded beyond traditional publishing and elite writing, with online literature, non-fiction, and science fiction thriving. He emphasized the need for creators to respect the diverse writing ecosystem while maintaining literary quality, and to break down media barriers to integrate literature into film, games, and stage plays. According to industry data, 59% of the top 100 TV series in 2025 were literary adaptations, and the market scale of online literary IP adaptations in China reached 367.61 billion yuan in 2025, a 23.13% year-on-year increase. This year’s Changchun Film Festival also focused on nurturing young talent, with 36 films submitted for the 'Golden Deer Debut Award' and the 'Golden Deer Venture' Youth Film Talent Support Program collecting nationwide entries. Collaborations with universities included events like the 'University Student Short Film Creation Collection and Exhibition.' Qi Huadong stated that the 'New Forces of Chinese Literature' initiative has created a high-level dialogue platform for creators, fostering deeper coordination between literature and film in areas such as topic planning, content creation, IP development, and talent exchange, ultimately leading to more culturally significant and artistically valuable works.
