China-serbia joint humanoid robot factory begins production, becomes europe's first mass production base
On August 29, 2026, Serbia's first robot factory, co-built by China and Serbia, officially began operations in the western city of Sabac. This facility, the first in Europe for mass-producing humanoid robots, was inaugurated by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, who called it a crucial step toward Serbia's future. The first humanoid robot was produced and demonstrated, showcasing abilities such as calligraphy, folding clothes, playing chess, and dancing. Vučić emphasized that the production of humanoid robots opens new technological fields for Serbia, aiming to integrate robotics with AI, supercomputers, and data centers to boost local talent and employment.
The factory, with an initial investment of 20 million euros (approximately 157 million RMB), covers 3,000 square meters and focuses on assembling and testing humanoid robots and robotic dogs. It plans to expand to a robotics industrial park with an estimated total investment of 200 million euros. The factory's production will initially target industrial applications before expanding into education and public services. The project is backed by Minsheng Group, a company based in Jiaxing, China, which has been operating in Serbia since 2018 and has already established 10 factories there.
