At the 2026 China Computing Power Conference, Chinese Academy of Engineering Fellow Wu Hequan highlighted the growing role of token consumption in driving computing power. He noted that token usage has reached an average of 140 trillion per day this year, with efficiency becoming more important than sheer volume. China's computing power currently accounts for 21% of the global total, with plans to increase this to 30% by 2030. Rao Shaoyang, Director of the Industry and Enterprise Strategy Research Institute at China Telecom Research Institute, added that China's annual token consumption is expected to reach 10 quadrillion by 2026 and surpass 35 quadrillion by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate close to 12 times. The conference, held in Langfang, Hebei from September 11-13, also showcased a range of new computing power software and hardware products.
