Cisco and Nvidia collaborate on advanced optical networking for AI data centers

Cisco and Nvidia have announced a partnership to develop next-generation optical networking technology aimed at addressing the rising data demands in AI data centers. The collaboration focuses on creating faster, more energy-efficient connections to support the growing number of GPUs used in AI operations. Cisco's President and Chief Product Officer, Jeetu Patel, emphasized that AI agents are becoming increasingly capable, requiring significantly more network bandwidth compared to human operators performing similar tasks. According to Patel, these advancements could enable hundreds of thousands of GPUs to work together more efficiently, reducing the overall cost of AI infrastructure. The initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance data center performance as AI technologies continue to expand.
