Cisco has expanded its collaboration with Supermicro to integrate high-performance AI servers into its Nvidia-supported infrastructure solutions. The move marks Cisco's broader strategy to offer more of the physical equipment required to run AI applications, moving beyond its traditional networking focus. The partnership includes the addition of high-density, liquid- and air-cooled computing systems to Cisco's Secure AI Factory with Nvidia, as disclosed to Axios. Jeetu Patel, Cisco's President and Chief Product Officer, emphasized the company's role as critical infrastructure for the AI era, stating that Cisco will support every architectural variation in AI systems. Cisco has largely avoided the 'SaaSpocalypse' that affected software stocks this year, as investors increasingly see the company as a beneficiary of the physical AI infrastructure buildout. However, the expansion places Cisco in a more competitive market, where hyperscalers and even Nvidia itself are also active players. The strategy underscores Cisco's belief that the AI infrastructure boom will benefit its networking and hardware divisions.
