Anthropic has announced a major expansion of its support for scientists, offering 10,000 free Claude subscriptions and discounted rates for one year through a new team plan for researchers. Standard seats will be free, while premium seats with 5x usage limits will cost $15 per month. The company also plans to extend the program beyond the initial 10,000 seats in the coming months. Alongside subscriptions, Anthropic is broadening its AI for Science program to include researchers in fields beyond biology, such as mathematics and computational sciences. The initiative includes a $5 million grant program to fund research on AI’s impact on wellbeing and a research preview of the Model Hardware Standard (MHS) for AI agents to operate physical devices. Researchers in biology and chemistry will still be limited to Opus-class models, while Claude Fable models will block professional biology and drug development queries due to dual-use risks. Anthropic is partnering with the US government to create an access program for life sciences professionals to use Mythos-class models.
