Crusoe abandons $1.25 billion plan to use Boom turbines in AI data centers

Crusoe, a Denver-based AI data center startup that recently raised $3.9 billion, has terminated its $1.25 billion plan to use Boom Supersonic’s Superpower turbines. The deal, which aimed to supply 29 turbines to Crusoe’s Abilene, Texas, data center, was set for 2027 deliveries but has now collapsed. Boom Supersonic CEO Blake Scholl confirmed the partnership’s end on X, stating that turbines are no longer part of Crusoe’s near-term power mix. Scholl noted that Boom will deliver 250MW of turbines next year and target 1GW by 2028. Crusoe confirmed the termination, stating it remains flexible in its energy sourcing, including turbines, wind, solar, and the grid. The move is a setback for Boom, which raised $300 million last year to commercialize its stationary power plant business.
