DeepSeek launches official desktop app with cross-platform support
DeepSeek has announced the imminent release of its official desktop application for DeepSeek Harness (DSH), supporting macOS Apple Silicon, Intel, and Windows x64. The desktop version, currently in development, will be available for download from download.deepseek.com, though no version is yet available. The official app transmits data via a custom dsh-app:// protocol, enhancing security compared to third-party versions. It also packages runtime and backend together, improving version maintenance and stability.
The official desktop app, while including the Web interface, does not use local ports. Performance tests show that using V4.1 Flash within DSH achieves a higher cache hit rate, with users reporting speeds exceeding 95%. Users are advised to use High or Low thinking modes for daily tasks, as Max mode is suited for complex, long-term tasks with higher resource consumption.
A recent debate among users centered on whether to enable the highest thinking intensity for V4.1 Flash. While Max mode offers the strongest performance, it is not necessary for most users, who can achieve satisfactory results with High or Low modes, saving time and computational resources.
