DeepSeek launches v0.2 desktop app for its open-source agent framework
DeepSeek has launched an official desktop application for its open-source agent harness, DeepSeek Harness (dsh), with the v0.2 preview. The app is available for macOS (Apple silicon) and Windows (64-bit) and can be downloaded from deepseek.com/harness or via the command line using npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web. The release includes the dsh command, eliminating the need for separate Node.js or pnpm installations. Users can sign in with a DeepSeek account or add an API key, with account models gaining web search capabilities without an extra key.
The harness, first open-sourced in August 2026 under the MIT license, runs on Cordis as described in the research paper 'A Programming Paradigm for Spatiotemporal Composability.' It supports third-party providers and custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints, with the repository surpassing 240,000 GitHub stars and 29,000 forks. dsh also serves as an evaluation tool, with the Code Agent benchmarks running in 'DeepSeek Harness minimal mode,' achieving an 82.7 score on Terminal Bench 2.1.
The v0.2.1-alpha.1 build introduces an experimental Claude Code Mods compatibility layer, testing if the Mods API is a subset of dsh plugins. It also adds a 'Let Agent create a plugin' feature, an optional Developer Tools bundle, and a --public-url flag for reverse proxies, while removing runtime invariant plugins, a breaking change for some extensions.
