Denmark has introduced new measures to combat AI cheating in schools, following a rise in incidents during this summer's exam season. The government has launched an emergency plan that includes adding oral defenses for approximately 9,000 students annually and monitoring computer screens during written exams. These steps aim to curb misconduct while integrating AI into education. The plan emphasizes regulating AI rather than banning it outright, as schools, students, and parents believe this approach is more effective.
Other countries are also taking similar actions. Australian universities have accelerated reforms in exams and assessments this year, reintroducing oral exams and in-person tests. In June, South Korea banned AI smart glasses during final exams. These measures reflect a global trend toward managing AI's role in education rather than eliminating it entirely.
