DoorDash launches drone delivery service in northern california

DoorDash, a U.S. food delivery platform, announced on September 30, 2026, that it will launch drone-based meal delivery services in northern California. The service will initially partner with restaurants such as Chipotle and Popeyes. The drones, which are equipped with six propellers, will operate with noise levels comparable to a moving car. Under ideal conditions, deliveries are expected to reach customers within five minutes. The company will utilize a new delivery management system that factors in traffic, weather, and flight time to optimize delivery routes. In addition to the drone service, DoorDash introduced an app-free ordering feature for iPhone users, allowing them to place orders directly through the Messages app without needing to download the official application.
