Elon Musk acknowledged user reports regarding Grok Bot's weekly usage limits being depleted faster than anticipated, stating that the service costs are proving unsustainable relative to the revenue generated. Grok Bot, launched by SpaceX in August, functions as an AI agent capable of performing tasks like online shopping for users, and it operates across various tiers, including a free version up to a $200 monthly subscription. This usage cap structure, common among AI services like Meta's Muse, is designed to prevent excessive computational billing. SpaceX recently disclosed that Grok Bot had 800,000 paying weekly active users in its last monthly report, which Musk had previously called the fastest-growing product he had ever seen. Musk confirmed the high operational burn rate, even as he previously suggested the era of AI abundance was near. Furthermore, SpaceX plans to bundle Grok Bot into a new $8 monthly X subscription package, which will also include X Premium and the AI programming tool Cursor. The service can integrate models such as Claude Opus 5.5 and MidJourney.
