Authentic Brands Group, which holds the rights to Elvis Presley's music and image, has filed a lawsuit against AI company Anthropic, accusing it of using 274 of Presley's songs without permission to train its AI models. The lawsuit, filed last week, claims that Anthropic's Claude AI model has been generating infringing content since its inception. The case is one of the first major legal actions brought directly by an artist's estate against an AI developer. The plaintiff is seeking $150,000 per song, totaling around $41 million, citing the company's continued infringement despite the implementation of ineffective safeguards. Richard Busch, the lead attorney, stated that Anthropic's business model is built on large-scale copyright infringement. Spotify recently removed about 50 million AI-generated songs from its recommendations, highlighting growing concerns over AI's impact on music creation.
