In Q3 2026, Europe recorded its strongest venture funding quarter in four years, with AI driving 75% of the $25 billion raised, according to Crunchbase data. The U.K. led with $7.5 billion, while Germany and France saw their strongest quarters since 2021. A $3.5 billion investment in Mistral, the largest European venture round, significantly boosted the quarter’s totals. Four European companies raised over $1 billion, including Mistral’s Large 4 model, which it claims outperforms other open-source models.
Late-stage funding totaled $17.3 billion, with major rounds from Nscale, Helsing, and Quantum Systems. AI and physical tech accounted for half of the funding, with investments in defense, data centers, and aerospace. Sweden, the Netherlands, and Spain also saw strong growth, with $1.5 billion, $1.4 billion, and $1.2 billion invested, respectively. Seed funding totaled $2 billion, with London’s Callosum raising the largest seed round at $100 million.
Europe’s venture capital reached 16% of global totals in Q3, though many startups are expanding to the U.S. to capitalize on AI growth. The region’s ability to fund deep-tech companies and sovereign AI initiatives will be tested in the coming quarters.
