Ex-doge members claim rapid hack on Anthropic
A cybersecurity firm led by former members of Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) claims to have breached Anthropic’s internal systems in under 12 hours. The firm, named Cathedral, specializes in AI-driven cybersecurity with a focus on military applications. It recently secured $160 million in funding, valuing the company at $1.4 billion, with investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital. Cathedral alleges it exploited vulnerabilities in business software used by Anthropic and other companies, gaining access to meeting transcripts, salary data, job offers, and Slack messages.
Anthropic confirmed the breach, stating that Cathedral accessed a limited set of systems and that access points have been closed. The company noted that Cathedral spent multiple days attempting direct breaches before targeting third-party tools. A Washington official expressed concern, suggesting that if a new company could achieve this, the Chinese might follow suit. The Trump administration has criticized Anthropic, labeling it a ‘radical left, woke company’ and designating it a supply-chain risk.
