Factory launches droid 1.0: a model-independent coding agent with script mode capabilities

Factory DroidSource: MarkTechPost31/10/2026, 11:18
Factory has launched Droid 1.0, the latest update to its coding agent harness, featuring programmatic tool calling as a default function. This update allows models to generate and execute scripts in a sandboxed environment, enhancing efficiency and reducing costs. The Droid 1.0 harness is model-independent, enabling users to select a model or let Factory Router choose an optimal mix for cost efficiency. Factory reports that Script mode reduces costs by 15% on Claude Opus 5.5 compared to direct tool calling. The update is available as a desktop app and terminal UI, with the Droid SDK supporting Node.js, streaming, and MCP tools. Paid plans start at $20 per month. The release follows internal testing from October 23 to 28, 2026, where results were benchmarked against multiple models, including GPT-6.1 Sol and Kimi K3. The new Script tool enables independent, concurrent tool calls, with results confined to the program and only printed output returned to the model. Factory attributes the improvements to an internal Agent Factory loop that iteratively tests and refines changes across model families. The release also includes Terminal-Bench 4 figures from Factory’s methodology section. The company encourages users to engage through its GitHub, Hugging Face, and Telegram channels, as well as its newsletter and SubReddit community.
