Fambot, a startup founded by former Instagram engineer Greg Karlin and CEO David Reich, has introduced an 'AI chief of staff' designed to assist families with managing the mental load of child-related tasks. Reich, a father and former Uber product head, developed the product after struggling with the time demands of parenting and work. The AI assistant integrates with email, calendar, and WhatsApp groups to provide daily checklists and future event previews. Fambot differentiates itself by offering web and mobile app interfaces, in addition to text-based interactions. The startup, backed by $3.5 million in pre-seed funding, is currently free in beta and plans to charge around the cost of a Netflix subscription. Reich emphasized the need for support for 43 million U.S. families with children under 16. Fambot has tested with over 1,000 families, including single-parent and only-child households, proving its broad appeal. The company uses AI models that do not train on user data and aims to become a central hub for family communications. Fambot plans to integrate with school and sports apps over time. The startup is part of a growing trend in AI assistants, competing with companies like Instinct and Poke.
