The European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) has selected Bull, a French supercomputing company, to build and deliver the LUMI-AI supercomputer. This AI-focused system will be deployed at the CSC data center in Kajaani, Finland, as part of the LUMI AI factory. It will support industrial AI innovation, academic research, AI training and inference, and large-scale scientific simulations. The system will use AMD Instinct MI430X GPUs and 6th-gen EPYC processors with 256 cores, offering twice the HPC performance and ten times the AI performance compared to the existing LUMI system. Deployment is scheduled for the second half of 2027. The project, valued at 387.8 million euros (approximately 30.27 billion yuan), will be split equally between EuroHPC JU and the LUMI AI factory consortium. This marks a significant investment in AI infrastructure, highlighting the growing importance of supercomputing in scientific and industrial applications.
