Former google DeepMind engineer joins Baidu to lead large model pretraining
A recent report reveals that Qiyin Wu, a former principal engineer at Google DeepMind and key contributor to the Gemini 2.5 model, has joined Baidu. Wu will be responsible for large model pretraining work at the company. According to the report, Wu held the L6-L7 level at Google, which is comparable to P9/P10 at Alibaba and 3-2/4-1 at ByteDance. She will continue to work from the United States after joining Baidu.
Wu, a Chinese-American scientist, holds a master's degree in computer science from Stanford University. Before joining DeepMind, she worked on multiple core teams at Google and contributed to projects at UC Berkeley's College of Engineering. She was also a core author and contributor to the official technical report for the Gemini 2.5 model.
