Google executive highlights rapid AI adoption in asia, outpacing global expectations

Harsha Konduri, Google's head of AI business for the Asia-Pacific and Japan region, stated that the pace of AI adoption in Asia is significantly faster than previously anticipated. According to Konduri, AI has been adopted across the region in just two years, compared to the over a decade it took for cloud computing to become mainstream. He emphasized that the perception of lower AI adoption rates in Asia is inaccurate, noting that the region is now the second-largest contributor to Google Cloud's revenue, with some business segments approaching those in North America. Konduri highlighted that Asian enterprises tend to be more cautious when adopting AI, citing examples such as Samsung Electronics, Japan Insurance Holdings, and Tata Steel. These companies, which have built decades of reputational capital, are wary of potential risks from AI missteps. Additionally, Konduri predicted that enterprise focus on AI costs will increase, suggesting that only a small portion of tasks require the most expensive top-tier models.
