Google expands smart home access to external AI agents

Google is enabling third-party AI agents to interact with its smart home ecosystem through a new integration called Home MCP. This protocol allows tools such as Claude, Hermes, and Open Claw to access and control connected devices, as well as analyze home data. Taylor Lehman, group product manager at Google Home & Nest, explained in a blog post that the update permits any AI agent supporting MCP to securely manage devices and event history within the Google Home ecosystem. The move represents a significant shift toward open integration, allowing external AI systems to act on behalf of users.
