Google launches fairwind program to empower cyber defenders with advanced AI tools
Google has launched the Fairwind Program, a limited-access initiative offering advanced cyber defense capabilities to governments and trusted partners. The program provides access to Gemini 3.8 Flash Cyber, a powerful AI model, combined with CodeMender, to autonomously identify and fix vulnerabilities. Over 650 global partners, including government agencies and cybersecurity leaders, are participating. The program allows early access to these tools, enabling defenders to harden systems before potential threats exploit new capabilities. Google emphasizes strict operational standards, such as limiting access to internal cybersecurity teams and using multi-factor authentication. The Fairwind Program builds on Google’s existing cybersecurity efforts, including its zero-trust architecture and AI Threat Defense solutions.
Additionally, Google.org has committed over $100 million in cybersecurity funding, with a 2026 report detailing $36 million in support for 35 cyber clinics in the U.S. The initiative aims to reduce the time between flaw detection and patching, giving organizations a strategic edge against evolving threats. The program is designed to evolve with user needs, expanding access and collaborating with industry leaders to balance open access with security. Google highlights its commitment to global cyber resilience, supporting grassroots defense efforts through partnerships and funding. By integrating advanced AI with secure cloud environments, the Fairwind Program seeks to protect billions of accounts daily, reinforcing Google’s role in safeguarding digital ecosystems worldwide.
