Google launches first orbital AI data center test satellite

Google has launched its first experimental satellite, MVP, as part of Project Suncatcher, an initiative to develop orbital AI data centers. The satellite, which is the size of a refrigerator, contains four custom TPU AI accelerators designed for training AI models and running inference tasks. The launch, scheduled for October 1, aims to validate Google's vision for a constellation of AI satellites. MVP is equipped with solar panels providing about one kilowatt of power, enough to power a microwave or hair dryer. The satellite's spacecraft was developed by Planet Labs, with Google integrating its AI hardware into an existing design.
