Google's gemini AI introduces 'shop this' feature for cross-app shopping
On October 12, it was revealed that Google is developing a new feature for its AI assistant, Gemini, called 'Shop This.' This feature allows users to identify products and compare prices across apps seamlessly. The functionality is embedded in the Gemini floating overlay within the Google Android app version 17.66.11.sa.arm64. Users can access it while browsing products in third-party apps, without switching apps or searching manually. The feature automatically identifies products, finds purchasing channels, and compares key specifications and pricing. It also recommends alternative products.
The move aligns with Google's strategy to enhance the retail experience through large models, integrating Gemini's product recognition and shopping comparison capabilities into screen context awareness. The feature is currently in early testing, with details on implementation and compatibility still to be confirmed. As AI assistants evolve toward multimodal interactions, Gemini's expansion into cross-app shopping is expected to reshape mobile search and e-commerce traffic.
