Google's sergey Brin highlights ai's accelerated self-improvement
Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google, stated during a roundtable discussion that the company is nearing a pivotal moment in AI development. He emphasized that Google's AI models are now assisting in building their successors, a process known as recursive self-improvement (RSI). Brin noted the release of Google's Flash models as evidence of this trend and mentioned that the company is 'starting to get onto that RSI treadmill.'
A new report from Gladstone AI, published this week, suggests that most researchers at Anthropic, OpenAI, and DeepMind believe RSI could begin within the next 3 to 12 months. Google's safety report for its new Argon model highlighted that AI agents are now authoring most production code and bug fixes, though human review remains necessary. Brin has been actively pushing for more focus on RSI within Google, as reported by Business Insider. Vihan Jain, an RSI leader at Google DeepMind, noted that the Argon model has become integral to its own evolution.
