Healthcare providers now leverage ChatGPT for integrated patient and public data access
OpenAI has launched new integrations that allow healthcare organizations to connect electronic health records (EHRs) and public healthcare data to ChatGPT for Healthcare. The initiative includes an Epic integration and a Healthcare Public Data plugin, enabling clinicians to access authorized patient information and structured data from sources like PubMed, DailyMed, and CMS Coverage.
The plugin provides direct access to nine official healthcare datasets, allowing teams to compare and verify precise information such as trial eligibility criteria and medication identifiers without searching each source separately. Physicians evaluated ChatGPT’s performance across 27 clinical use cases, rating 99.1% of responses as safe. For five connected data sources, over 93% of responses were deemed accurate.
OpenAI has partnered with hundreds of physicians globally to refine ChatGPT’s healthcare responses, with over 700,000 model responses reviewed. The platform now supports HIPAA-compliant workflows through enterprise controls like role-based access and audit logs, enabling clinical, research, and administrative teams to use AI in a governed workspace.
