Hema introduces AI crab inspection system for enhanced efficiency

As the hairy crab season approaches, Hema has deployed AI inspection systems at production sites and receiving warehouses. The system combines AI vision technology with weight data to assess crab fullness, enabling automated inspection and sorting. According to Mu Xiao, seafood purchasing officer at Hema, the model and detection efficiency have improved significantly due to data accumulated from over 10 million crabs in 2025. The system can inspect 50 crabs within one minute, and with a conveyor belt, it enables fully automated sorting. This has increased efficiency by dozens of times. Currently, crabs sorted by AI are being sold by Hema. The AI system is designed to streamline the inspection process, reducing manual labor and increasing accuracy. Mu Xiao emphasized that the data-driven approach has allowed for more precise sorting, ensuring higher quality products reach consumers. The implementation of AI in the seafood industry marks a significant step toward automation in supply chain management. Hema's initiative highlights the growing integration of artificial intelligence in food quality control processes.
